Over the course of five years, Dynamix Energy Services’ substantial energy overhaul at the Delaware Area Career Center has resulted in savings of over $1-million for the center – and the number continues to grow.
The Project Scope
In early 2014, Dynamix Energy Services completed a guaranteed Energy Project for the two DACC Campuses. This project reduced the school’s utility expenses while improving its air quality and comfort for students and staff. Work for the $2.4 million project, which took five months to complete, included:
- Upgrading lighting systems
- Replacing nine rooftop units
- Installing non-proprietary utility controls in two buildings
- Designing easy-to-use graphical interface for equipment and space controls
- Adding adjustable room sensors, air quality monitoring sensors, supplemental sensors, and new variable speed drives on specific pieces of equipment
- Removing old HVAC units
The project featured a guaranteed annual savings of $150,553, and in the first year alone, DACC saw an energy cost savings of more than $200,000. As of January 2019, those savings have climbed to over $1 million.
“In my experience, it is rare for an energy services company to achieve the level of savings that they guarantee during sales presentations. Dynamix Energy Services not only met and exceeded their guarantee, they completed the project three months early which meant our energy savings and our building comfort levels began sooner than expected. The equipment interface is very simple to use so maintaining comfort levels and maximizing energy savings is as easy as it gets.” Jack Higgins, Director of Operations, DACC
Continued Work with DACC
In 2016 the Career Center decided to consolidate two buildings into one and increasing the size of their South Campus to 224,988 sq. ft.. They chose Dynamix to partner with them to design and coordinate the installation of the new HVAC equipment and controls, as well as, provide their commissioning expertise (called “Controls as a Professional Services”) during the installation phase. This ensured that the new building addition operated at peak efficiency on the first day of occupancy, and seamlessly coordinated as one HVAC control system throughout the old and new phases.
Since 2014, DACC has continued to utilize our Technical Services Program, and has also enrolled in our PLC/Capacity Management Program for continued energy efficiencies and savings. The center has seen a reduction of 30%-50% in its energy consumption, and received one year of monitoring and optimization after completion.
“Congratulations to Delaware Area Career Center on exceeding the $1 million savings milestone. Our team values the partnership we have with DACC and we are proud of the accomplishments of this endeavor. With DACC opting for Controls as a Professional Service for the delivery method of the new consolidated building, their investment will continue paying off in Energy Savings.” Sean Weber, Vice President Energy and Controls Project, Dynamix Energy Services
